Mumbai, India — Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, Board Chair of the Global Leadership and Governance Institute (GLGI) and former President of the Republic of Mauritius, was honored to participate in the “Peace Conclave 2026” held in Mumbai, India, where she was bestowed with the Peace Award by four Nobel Peace Prize laureates in recognition of her commitment to leadership, public service, global dialogue, and social impact.

The Peace Award was also presented to other distinguished public figures, including prominent personalities from Bollywood, business, religious communities, and social-impact sectors, recognizing their contributions to peace, humanitarian values, and positive social change. Dr. Gurib-Fakim expressed her deep gratitude for receiving the award and for being included among leaders and changemakers who have demonstrated meaningful influence in their respective fields.

During the conclave, Dr. Gurib-Fakim was invited by Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala to participate in the “I Am Peacekeeper Movement,” a global initiative dedicated to advancing peace, understanding, and shared human responsibility. The movement seeks to inspire individuals, institutions, and communities to embrace peace not only as an aspiration, but also as a personal and collective responsibility.

The Chief Guest of the conclave was Shri Ram Nath Kovind, the 14th President of India. Dr. Gurib-Fakim had the great honor of welcoming President Kovind in 2018 during his state visit to Mauritius, when she was serving as President of the Republic of Mauritius. At the conclave, President Kovind fondly recalled their meeting and his state visit to Mauritius, reflecting the longstanding friendship and close ties between India and Mauritius.

Dr. Gurib-Fakim commended Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala and the organizers for convening a meaningful platform that brings together leaders, advocates, and changemakers committed to peacebuilding and social responsibility. She emphasized that peace must be advanced through empathy, dialogue, education, inclusive leadership, and sustained cooperation across cultures and societies.

As Board Chair of GLGI, Dr. Gurib-Fakim continues to support global initiatives that strengthen leadership, governance, cross-cultural understanding, and sustainable development.
